Negotiation is a conversation between two parties to resolve conflicts & to find solutions that both parties will be accepting. Negotiations are successful when both parties come to an agreement to settle a dispute, for the benefit of the parties (Indeed Editorial Team, 2023).
In a work environment, knowingly or unknowingly negotiations are taking place. Therefore wise leaders will encourage strong relationships between the two parties, in negotiations, as a leaderships' success will depend on it (Salacuse, 2023). As per Dhir (2023), it is a strategic discussion that will sort issues in a way that it will benefit both parties. Therefore will require one or both parties to be adaptable.

As per Miller (2023), for optimum benefit at the bargaining table, it is important for the employer to be equipped with the relevant skills for the deal or outcome to be fruitful. Negotiation skills are also needed in a work place when changes begins to happen. Let's take a look at some of these vital skills.
Communication is the key
For a person or group to negotiate effectively, communication is crucial to express his / their situation. It can vary from dealing with a newly joined superior or a colleague to dealing with your boss for a promotion. By fine-tuning your own negotiating skills, a person will be able to be his own protector in times of change (Schindler, 2019). Therefore it is important for successful negotiators to build their communication skills for an effective outcome.

Emotional intelligence
During a negotiation, although the parties tries not to take matters personally & to stay focused on the task, automatically emotions will come into play (Perry, 2023) As observed by Miller (2023) needs high emotional intelligence to understand the other party's emotions. One can use emotions for the benefit of both the parties. While positive emotions can create trust, nervous situations can be changed into a calm situation.
Value Creation, is by adding value to the offer, a win-win situation can be created for the two parties. To make suggestions that will benefit one party without costing anything to the other party is value creation (Perry, 2023). In addition to realizing great value, will be able to build trust & bong between the two parties that will assist in future negotiations (Miller 2023).
Negotiations are held to sort problems that are occurred. As per Perry (2023), problems can range from resource limitations to shifting of budgets. By analyzing the problem encountering, critical thinking of the issue and inspecting various alternatives is needed for the negotiation process to be beneficial to both the parties (Roberts, 2023).
